Mpumalanga Academy of Sport has over many
years dedicated itself in the growth and development of
sport and most importantly the development of
world-class champions in the province of Mpumalanga. The
logical extension of this programme is to ensure its
sustainability and effectiveness. To this end the
Academy has identified a need to restructure sport in
Mpumalanga in order to:
This will be achieved through the
introduction of the effective participation and total
involvement of all stakeholders, most importantly our
municipalities in the whole province.
A properly well structured plan for
talent identification, capacity building and the
nurturing of talent through skills development remains a
cornerstone of our transformation programme leading to
representativity by properly equipped administrators,
technical officials and athletes at regional and
provincial level.
The Academy is has been accredited by
THETA as an Education and Training service provider
delivering skills programmes on sport.
In its efforts to develop High
Performance Sport, Mpumalanga Academy of Sport in
partnership with the Department of Culture, Sport and
Recreation has been awarded 60 Learnership by
THETA wherein 48 (Forty Eight) was the unemployed
young, energetic and ambitious sports people who passed
Grade 12 (Matric) and would like to take sport as their
career and 12 employed sport officials within
municipalities and the regional Departments of Culture,
Sport and Recreation. The successful candidates are
presently undergoing training in Sport Leadership
Course accredited at NQF level 4 and will receive an
honorarium of R960.00 (Nine Hundred and Sixty Rand)
per person on monthly basis during their term in the
Learnership.
The German project called YESS
(Youth Empowerment Scheme through Sport) which
is aimed at capacitating teachers and the youth
in-school and out of school on football is presently
underway. Mr Simon Ngomane has developed a Learning
Material for the project which will be accredited by
SAFA in no time at all for implementation purposes. The
first batch of teachers to be trained will be in July
2007.
The other programme which is presently
underway in the Gert Sibande District is the 5-Aside
Soccer Development Tournament. The finals of same will
be held on the 22 – 24 June 2007 at Embalenhle Sasol
Recreation Centre. In August and September this will be
conducted at Ehlanzeni Region.
Currently Mpumalanga is also preparing
for participation in the fourth edition of the SA Games
officially launched on Friday, 1 June 2007. Mpumalanga
Academy of Sport is responsible for the entire Team
Mpumalanga preparations and training camps whereby the
following will be dealt with:

This clearly indicates that the Academy
is committed to uplift the standard of sport and
completely change the province for the better.
